Nerve racking, yet she got to get away from her work. That was what she was truly worried about. Getting behind. In her studies, in her hard work that she still had to do. But an hour or two at a coffee shop couldn't hurt...could it? Still unsure, her clock just keep ticking closer and closer to five o'clock. And that was the time they had agreed on. Just thinking about it as she was finishing up some of her English paper, she looked up at her clock. Four o'clock, and she really couldn't concentrate on anything else besides going to the coffee shop. None of her other studies were going to get done, and that troubled her. But she had to get ready right? She didn't want to look horrible, oh no she couldn't do that at all. That was also unacceptable, so she plugged her lap top into the charger and walked over to her bathroom.
Her eye widened, as she let out a small gasp. She was glad she had a moment to get ready, she looked horrible. Her hair was in a loose tangled bun on the back of her head. She had make up on one eye, but not the other, plus she was still wearing her pajamas. She wasn't planning on going out today. She wasn't planning on hanging out with Tanner today. Quickly wiping off the make up she had on with a baby wipe, she re-applied some eye liner and some earthy brown colors to her eyes. She then proceeded to take down her hair, brush it and get it to look alright, well to her standards anyway. She then added a simple hair band to her hair. Nothing to hold her hair back or anything, just for an accessory. But now on to something bigger, what was she going to wear?!
From the bathroom, she began to look through her closet. She had to giggle to herself, on of the last posts she remembered on the chat today was of someone asking why girls take so long to get ready. If any girl was like Emilee, they also would over analyze everything she thought about putting on. After looking through literally all of her clothes, she finally just put something on. It was simple, a white v-neck t-shirt, under a leather jacket. With a dark blue skinny jeans, and leopard pattern flats. Something simple yet took her fifteen minutes to finally decide on it. Adding a few more accessories and she was finally done, she looked to see how much time she had. Fifteen minutes. She didn't want to be late! Grabbing her purse, her phone, and her car keys and she was out the door.
It took her ten minutes to get to Before the Grind, taking one last look at herself in her rear view mirror, before stuffing her keys and phone in her purse and heading inside. They didn't seem to be that busy, but she knew it was just a matter of time before people got off work, or got out of class to come here for some coffee. She looked around to see if she could spot Tanner, or just a glimpse of his red hair, but no such luck. So she ordered herself a simple chai latte made with soy milk, and paid the girl behind the counter. Within a matter of moments her beverage was in her hands, and she was heading towards a table in the front corner of the coffee shop. Semi-private, she didn't like people butting into her conversations. As she sat down she placed her drink on the small table in front of her, and placed her purse on her lap. She began then to dig around in her purse until she found her book of poems. Mostly Edgar Allan Poe's work, opening it where she had doggy eared it. She glanced up looking outside, not seeing him yet, she returned her attention back to her book.

AND THE WORLD IS SPINNING MUCH TOO FAST w e l l i c a n h a r d l y c a t c h m y b r e a t h AND I JUST HOPE THAT THIS WILL LAST - - - - - - - - - - tanner pennington wasn't quite sure what had possessed him to ask emilee to get coffee with him. it had been a spur of the moment thing; they had been talking and tanner had decided that it wouldn't hurt to see her in person. well, of course it wouldn't hurt. by now he couldn't deny the fact that he definitely had developed a crush on the pretty brunette girl. it was completely unlike tanner to have a crush. after all, he was so dedicated to the main things in his life: his family and school. school took precedence over everything; his life long dream had been that he wanted to be a doctor and save people's lives. he knew that there was going to be a ridiculous amount of work involved in that path - he was feeling it now and he wasn't even a legitimate 'pre med' major, just a biology major - and in the end, it was all going to be worth it. for now, the twenty two year old couldn't focus on the future and what ifs; he needed to focus on the nows. perfect grades, work of excellent quality, his job, keeping his family happy. he knew he had it easy; he had worked out a deal with his parents in exchange for helping care of his siblings, he'd get a place to live, food to eat and part of his tuition. he was definitely thankful for it; he had already promised himself that he would pay them back once he was making a name for himself in his field.
for now, he was perfectly content to be perched on his desk chair, typing away at what felt like the five thousandth essay this week. he was rambling away, attempting to sound smart while talking about a subject he had no particular interest in. english classes were definitely not his strong point, which was probably why he had put off the required classes as long as possible. and there he was, a senior who was balancing 400 and 500 level courses, struggling in a basic, 200 level writing class. he didn't understand why he had so much trouble in the class; his writing was decent yet he felt like his teacher was asking for him to go to the very farthest edges of space to bring her back some rare space rock. his whole struggle was one of the main reasons why he was so happy he had met emilee; she was good and english and the girl was probably one of the reasons he was even managing to pass the class with the current grade he had now.
tanner's english class was the last thing on his mind right now, especially as he caught sight of his laptop's clock. his brown eyes widened when he noticed that he was running late (which he really did hate to do). he sighed and pushed his laptop away from him, knowing he had only a few minutes to get ready to go and meet the girl he was crushing on. he quickly got up and stretched, sighing in utter happiness that he was no longer confined to his chair. then, he scampered to the bathroom he shared with his siblings. he wasn't quite sure what he was trying to fix about himself; after all his red hair was normally a god awful mess and it wasn't as though he wore makeup. so, he splashed a little water on his face, hoping the iciness of the cold liquid would help perk him up a bit, and once his face was dry, he ran his fingers through his hair, figuring there really wasn't more he could do short of getting it cut to make it look more acceptable. after a few more moments of freshening up, he was off to meet emilee at the coffee shop. luckily, traffic was on his side because he was there in a matter of minutes. he expertly made his way to where he could order, keeping his eyes peeled for the brunette locks of the girl he was meeting. he spied her, reading a book, and he felt his lips pull up into a small smile as he paid the girl at the counter. his coffee didn't take long to make; he ordered it strong and black. occasionally he would add a bit of sugar and milk, but for the most part? it didn't matter to him. today, he decided as he began to make his way toward her, was going to be a black coffee day. "hey emilee," he said, seating himself in the chair opposite hers. "sorry if i'm late. i was really into my paper. how are you?" he flashed her a friendly smile and tried to swallow the butterflies that only seemed to erupt with her around. that was when he knew it: he had a crush.

Emilee still didn't understand what exactly made her so nervous around Tanner. She clearly knew that she had a crush on him, but after a few times of them hanging out. She told him that she liked him, she kind of expected that the butterflies would go away. And yet they stayed, he wasn't even around, just the thought of him coming up and sitting down with her made the butterflies in her stomach go crazy. At the same time a small smile formed on the edges of her lips. She looked up from her book, and some older lady was giving her the stink eye. Looking around trying to see if she could spot the ginger, before clearing her throat softly and giving her attention back to the book that lay in front of her. Although she knew that her book wasn't going to hold her attention, her mind would float else where. But it was better then spacing out, and having some lady look at her funny again. Or worse, Tanner coming up to her as she would be zoned out. Oh no she couldn't have that, so she at least pretended as if she were reading, as she day dreamed about other things. Things that wouldn't quit repeating in her mind. And things, well they were generally about Tanner.
She hadn't really concentrated on anything fully, of course she would buckle down when it came to her school work and stuff. But any time she had some time to just sit there, or read she couldn't get herself to do it. She would have weird flashbacks to the fourth of July, when she went over to his house with his family and celebrated it. She had never done anything like that before. Or the night before that when she went over and had dinner with his whole family. But that was because his sister decided to invite her over, which she was super nervous about. His sister, Zooey, she didn't seem to like Emilee very much. And that made Emilee really nervous by itself, not that she was going over to Tanner's house, but that his sister had invited her. But that night was awesome too, it was like every time they hung out or around each other she had a great night. Or her favorite night of all, the night they attempted to make cupcakes, but ended up being in a huge flour fight. Took her a whole day to clean it all up. But it was totally worth all the clean up to spend that time with him. Plus she thinks having Tanner over that night scared the new neighbor who was stalking her to her car and back the first day they had moved in. Which was a bonus, because he freaked her the hell out.
But what was going to happen this time they hung out. Of course they would be drinking coffee and what not but what where they going to do. She'd prefer not to talk about class stuff, though that is really she thought she knew. Looking up from her book once again she scoped out the coffee shop. Yet again she saw no sign of him, sighing softly she looked at her phone. Either he was kind of late, or he was standing her up. She was hoping the first one, but prepared for her to be stood up. Taking in a deep breath, followed by a swig of her latte, she returned her attention back to the book. What was she thinking, he said he liked her, and she knew that he wouldn't lie to her. Or at least she was hoping so. So this is how it felt to really like a boy, weird. She wasn't used to anything like this, but maybe she would have been if she would have socialized in high school like normal teenager. Instead she was studying so she could get into college. She had no time for relationships, maybe a friend every once in a while, but hardly. But now that she was in college, she decided she needed to socialize make friends, get out and do stuff. But she couldn't pull herself away from it if she tried. But once she met Tanner that all changed, but only when he'd ask her to do stuff.
But as she started to zone out in her own thoughts, starring at the pages of her book, she was grabbed from her own thoughts, almost startled when the boy she had been waiting for sat down across from her. But it seemed instantly a small smile came across her lips, it was something she just couldn't help to do. "Oh hey Tanner, she managed to say. But she realized she still had her book open, and clearly he had her undivided attention, so she just doggy eared the corner of her book, closing it and placing it back in her purse. Placing both her hands around her latte, "Oh your fine, I always carry a book with me, in case I have some time to squeeze some light reading in." she said with a soft smile on her lips. As she then took yet another sip out of her latte, just to check the temperature of it, she didn't want to burn her mouth. Placing her cup back on the table, her hands remaining around it. "I'm great now," she said with a grin, "All caught up on all my projects, and I get to hang out with you, so I'd say I am great. But how are you? I see you got all the flour out of your hair..." she said, yet a small giggle followed, but the smile remained.
