Tired didn’t exactly describe how Caleb felt at that very moment. Tired didn’t even come close. Try exhausted, drained, mentally unable to think of the answer to two plus two. Caleb could barely hold his eyes open so the fact that he was walking, out and about, and somewhat functional said a lot. He was shocked that he hadn’t just keeled over against a tree and taken a nap. Then again, if he did that, he’d probably end up with marker all over his face and pictures on the internet not long after. So that option was strictly out of the water. He wondered if it was possible to grow less tired the more exhausted you got. It probably was and he just hadn’t gotten there yet. His mom always told him that when he was a baby she would go days without sleep, good sleep, but after the first couple of days she was more awake than when she got a good night’s sleep. Maybe that was a mother thing? He wasn’t really sure, he’d never been nor would he ever be a mother. His hand ruffled through his hair sending the midnight black mess into a different position. It wasn’t really that it moved to a different position but that it looked more like he’d just woken up than he felt. He shuffled through his room his mind a complete ball of mush. He wondered exactly how he should go about this day. He could sit around and do nothing, but that was boring. He could go out and find something or someone to do, but that required energy. He could do a little of both, but how was he supposed to mix laziness with activeness and energy with fatigue? He wasn’t sure how any of this was going to work out. Nevertheless, he was determined to have a good time today. He’d been home for a few days and had slept those few days straight. Now, although he was for some reason still tired, he wanted to get out and see the town he hadn’t seen in a few months, years, whatever it was. He was ready to remember what the sun looked like when it was floating in the sky over the mountains. Oh what a poet he was. It didn’t take long for him to take a good long shower and then find clothes. He thought it was funny how a lot of the boys in his generation liked wearing the pants that basically fell of their asses. He, on the other hand, preferred the ones that stayed up, but were still a little baggy. The way he figured, loose pants made for a more difficult time running, should he need to run from cops or fans or whatever. So he kept them held up. Grabbing his phone and wallet, the keys and sliding his glasses on he started out of his house and into the town he’d missed somewhat over the years. He was too lazy to find his contacts. They were probably still in his suitcase, glasses worked just fine though. Maybe he’d find a smart girl to flirt with that thought boys with glasses was sexy or something, who knew really. His fingers drummed against the steering wheel as he started through the neighborhood and down to the actual city that was Aspen. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d just driven through town without having a specific destination. It was nice not having to be anywhere, not having to be on a schedule. It was relaxing and calming to not have to get to any certain destination at any given time. At the same time, it was strange for him to have nothing to do. He’d probably pull out his old guitar later and work on some songs he had stuck in his head. That would definitely be an entertaining day for him. Caleb loved to just write, at one point he told his mom that if he could do anything all day he would just write for a living. So far, he was doing a good job of that. The only time he ever hadn’t written all day was when he was pissed as fuck at a girl that was determined to make him believe she was carrying his kid. Needless to say he’d told her off. He wondered if she was still telling people her brat was his kid, stupid whore. Driving down one of the main streets he pulled over seeing the one place he really wanted to go. The local coffee shop was the best coffee shop of all time, at least to him. He couldn’t find coffee that even half way compared to the local joint. He also figured it would be a good place to start looking for someone to hang out with for the day. He was half way hoping it was someone that was easy on the eyes. But, in all honesty, he’d go for just about anyone right then. He parked, walked in, and debated on what to get. He finally just decided on a coffee, just regular, black coffee. He was unoriginal on that part. It didn’t bother him though, he was happy with his black coffee. He fiddled with his lip ring as he waited for the coffee. He also looked around the shop for people to see if he could find anyone he knew. Even if he didn’t, he could just chill in a seat waiting for someone to come in. It was about noon, if people were still sleeping they could use some coffee. Grabbing a seat next to the window he took his phone out and texted a few people but mostly he just sat and waited. nine hundred and sixty words for anyone as anyone. It’s at the local coffee shop just so everyone knows. By the way, I’m sick and bored with an aching head.

THESE CHILDREN LEARN FROMcigarette burns, fast cars fast women and cheap drinks Mornings were not a problem for Maxxie the way they were for most kids her age. Then again, the nineteen year old didn’t exactly stay out all night getting drunk and partying. The wildest thing she had gotten up to the previous night was a cookie dough fight in the living with who two year old daughter who was, safe to say, the most important thing in her life. Feeling a stir beside her, Maxxie’s eyes flicked open, a smile crossed over her lips and as routine every morning, her thin arm snaked out around the waist of her daughter, tugging her in close for a cuddle. The only thing that would have made the scene even more perfect was if kitty’s father were laying behind the two of them, sadly he was not. Caleb had refused to believe the child growing inside of Maxxie was his, although he had been her first and only sexual partner. Thinking about the way his face had turned in disgust still stung, however she still harbored a naive hope that one day he’d return, sweep her off her feet and they could be the happy family Maxxie longed for. Things hadn’t exactly been easy for the brunette. While she’d had the support of her friends, her mother had abandoned her and that had been the hardest thing to get over. Maxxie wanted Kitty to have a sense of family, she needed her father. Maxxie needed him as well.
Not wanting to dwell too much as she always did, the brunette let her fingers brush the hair from her daughters eyes gently, kissing her cheek. “kitty, kitty wake up, it’s Saturday you know what that means!” the little girl beside her stirred again, rubbing her eyes and yawned. Not to be deterred, Maxxie shook her head and laughed, tickling the little girls sides. Jayden, otherwise known as Kitty, let out a small squeal, giggling. Satisfied with her level of consciousness, Maxxie scooped the little girl up, before rolling off of their bed and pranced into the kitchen, Jayden sitting comfortably on her hip. “want some cheerios kitty?” it was a stupid question as it was all the two year old seemed to eat. If child services saw the little girls diet there was no doubt she’d be taken away. Maxine had a good heart, she loved her daughter and she tried, she really did. However she was too ignorant to understand how much it took to completely look after another person. Plopping Jayden down onto the couch, she flicked the television on. Saturday was cartoon day. SpongeBob, Kim possible, all the essentials. Placing a bowl of cheerios next to the little girl, Maxxie turned and pranced into the bathroom, stripping quickly and stepped into the shower. Yes Kitty was un-supervised. That’s just how she rolled.
After about fifteen minutes, Maxxie stepped out, wrapping a towel around herself. She stuck her head out for a moment, smiling at the sight of Jayden laying on her side, stuffing her mouth with cheerios, eyes glued to the television. Slipping on a pair of jeans and a tank top, Maxxie pranced back into the small kitchen. She never walked anywhere, it wasn’t in her nature. Rummaging through the cupboards, she was met with disappointment . There was no hot chocolate. Coffee would never be found in Maxxie’s apartment, it was too bitter for her liking , she was a sucker for sweet things. “Cartoons may have to wait Kitty, mommy wants hot chocolate” although the little girl could not understand her, yet, Maxxie still spoke to her as if she was going to sit up and respond at any moment. Lifting the two year old again, Maxxie grabbed her wallet and pranced out into the hall, brushing her hair-which was drying in loose curls-out of her face. It was only about a twenty minutes walk to the closest coffee shop. Maxine never drove anywhere, this was from the lack of car, she simply couldn’t afford to keep one and pay for gas, not that she minded all that much. Jayden wasn’t heavy and the fresh air, well if you could call it fresh, always put her in a good mood.
Grunting a little as she pushed open the door of the coffee shop , Maxxie took no notice of the other customers and gave a small smile to the boy behind the counter who’d looked up as the bell had rung upon the opening of the door. Letting Jayden down, she still kept her hand interlaced with the little girls, leading her over to the counter. “Good morning can I get a….tall hot chocolate and oh! One of those!” the brunette pointed excitedly to a tray of chocolate chip cookies that were sitting on the counter. In doing so she let go of Jayden’s hand .The two year old seized the opportunity and scampered away quickly, giggling as she ran between the tables as fast as her chubby legs would take her. Hearing the giggling, Maxxie turned, realizing what had happened. “Kitty? Kitty where’d you go?” a reasonable person would have demanded the child come back, but Maxxie had already turned it into a game. Paying the boy behind the counter, she grabbed her hot chocolate and cookie from the bench and turned to the rest of the shop, spotting a mop of ebony black hair darting behind one of the chairs.
Letting out a giggle, she snuck around one of the tables, eyes locked on the little girl. Jayden turned, obviously checking to see where her mother was and unfortunately ran straight into a table leg. Biting her lower lip nervously ,Maxxie scurried over, dropping down beside the little girl. “Aww, baby are you okay?” she crooned softly, only then noticing the leg beside her. Blinking for a moment she trailed her gaze up the leg, up the torso and to the face of the person at the table. Instantly, her mouth went dry and her palms became clammy. The brunette's jaw fell open in shock and her legs trembled, threatening to give out and let her fall flat on her ass. The sound of her heart beat in her ears was deafening and she had to gulp to stop tears falling from her eyes. She’d dreamt of seeing him again and had always known he’d come back, despite people telling her to be realistic and grow up, and here he was. “C-caleb…?”

Caleb’s day most likely would consist of him doing absolutely nothing besides driving around town and having a good time. He would probably find someone to hang out with but for now he was focused on coffee. Coffee addicts of the world could unite with Caleb and he’d have a great day. He might not like all the fancy shit like double caramel macchiato or lattes but he loved coffee. Probably, in the coffee world at least, he was a boring soul for really only ever drinking black coffee, but that was just how he was and that was how he planned to keep it. He didn’t need change, in a way he liked things to stay relatively the same, when it came to his enjoyment of caffeinated drinks. That was the reason it didn’t ever take him long to find a coffee shop wherever he was. Call him crazy but it was his way of dealing with the world around him. One of the major things Caleb was dealing with was his apparent fathering of a child. He wasn’t even sure if the kid was a boy or a girl, he’d never checked back. Of course he didn’t feel the need to, after all he was determined to believe the kid was in no way shape or form related to him in any way. What did it matter anyway? Wasn’t the mom the most important part of a kid’s life until they were like ten? He thought so. And under that thinking he didn’t have to be around until then. Besides, that girl was a slut, he was certain she’d slept with a lot of guys and that a lot of those guys hadn’t used protection and that was why she was pregnant. Not because he slept with her. Some people had such nerve to try and get him trapped, and a fucking pregnancy was apparently one of them. Caleb was wrapped up in his thoughts that he didn’t really see anyone coming in to the shop. He was paying attention to his phone, drink and the people looking like idiots outside. It wasn’t until some little midget ran into him and his table that he really paid much attention. He looked down feeling the vibration of the table to see a little girl, her hair black as night, looking like she was about to cry. Great, he did not feel like listening to some girl wail because she was too dumb to pay attention and had run into a table. She looked old enough to at least stay away from table legs. She probably had idiot parents and was the byproduct of stupidity. Why did kids have to be born stupid and annoying? Why couldn’t they be born with brains that told them they were being idiots and they needed to settle down? He wondered if he had ever been that bad, he doubted but you couldn’t help but wonder occasionally about your childhood. If he was that kid’s dad he’d spank her ass for misbehaving. Caleb was lucky, he didn’t have a kid, at least that’s what he was going to believe. He turned his head away; he didn’t really feel the need to watch her cry. And then, hearing a name, his name to be exact, he looked back. “Oh fuck” he said quickly and quietly. If you weren’t listening you probably wouldn’t have heard it. What was she doing here? Why did she have a brat with her? This probably wasn’t going to go well. Shit, fuck, shit, fuck, he thought faster than he might have imagined he could. He couldn’t stop thinking about reasons she was there. His eyes darted from the girl to kid and back. Well this was a great start to an obviously interesting day. Why the fuck was he trapped in this position? He couldn’t even think of her name. Think Caleb! he thought. Maybe it was Erica, no she was two weeks ago. Jane, Tara, Danielle, Marsha. M something. It was m something or another, he knew about that much. Instead he decided to play it cool, obviously she knew him and, unfortunately, she was under the impression that he was her baby daddy, so logically he could pretend he remembered her completely. “That’s what they call me.” he said not really caring what she thought of how he was acting. “How’ve you been?” he asked not exactly sure why he was being nice. This was the girl, after all, that had told him she was having his baby. The girl who had made it so clear that he was going to be a father. The girl who was so out of her mind that he’d told her to stay the fuck away from him. It wasn’t easy for him to admit that he had no clue how to act around her right now. He wasn’t sure if maybe he could be nice enough to her to get some action or if he was nice enough to her she would go away and never return. He personally was hoping for the first mixed with the second. Caleb was bored; he wanted a little action in his days. It was still bugging him that he couldn’t place her name. He was bored easily by things like that. Watching her movements he waited for something to just pop from nowhere and yell at him that it was her name. He watched her. Honestly Caleb wasn’t sure if he wanted to leave or not. He knew that if he stuck around she would get thoughts, thoughts he didn’t want her to have. He knew if he didn’t stick around she would probably start some fucking rumor about him and a kid. He wasn’t a fucking father and the sooner she got that through her thick skull the better it was for everyone. one oh one oh words for pey as maxxie. It’s at the local coffee shop just so everyone knows. By the way, I’m happy you joined the thread (: and I’m feeling tons better haha..

THESE CHILDREN LEARN FROMcigarette burns, fast cars fast women and cheap drinks The only thing keeping Maxxie from falling over was her daughter. Well their daughter. One of her hands was gripping the little girl’s wrist tightly, allowing her to stay upright. Realizing she was staring, Maxxie dropped her gazle; focusing on Jayden’s face instead, which was a bad idea as she looked an awful lot like her father. Maxxie was only now realizing this, having the two of them together to compare. Jayden had the same hair color, the same eyes and the same jaw line as Caleb. The corners of Jayden’s mouth screwed together tightly, a face she made often when she was about to cry. Panicking, Maxxie pulled her closer, kissing the top of her head, a little too distracted to deal with her properly right now. “Kitty don’t cry, please, it’s okay it’s just a table”. Wrapping her arms securely around the girl, Maxxie stood up, lifting her carefully, too shy to look back at Caleb. It’d been almost two years since she’d seen him and she still felt like the shy seventeen year old she’d been when she met him. Tongue tied and much too naïve for her own good. Maxine had imagined him coming back in all different scenarios and in each one she’d practiced what she would say. However this hadn’t been one of them and Maxxie had no idea what to do.
Part of her wanted to run away from him, scared of what he might think of her, the other part wanted to throw her arms around him, cry into his chest and tell him how much she missed him. “Is….is it really you?” so cliché and such an over used line, but it was the only thing that came to mind. Without realizing Maxxie had been digging her nails it’s Jayden’s wrist, causing the little girl to squirm. The brunette was still shaking as she forced herself to look up, biting on her lower lip nervously. His casual tone hit her hard, sending a shock through her system. Those weren’t the words of her Caleb, not the sweet boy she’d first met. See Maxine’s problem was she refused to notice all the bad things about him . The last time they’d spoken he’d called her a whore and she refused to acknowledge it. She’d always been expecting prince charming to come back, that’s what happens when you live in your own little delusion. Jayden kicked her legs in frustration as Maxxie’s grip tightened on her and it was only when one hit her in the thigh that she looked at her daughter blushing a little and pried her nails from the little girls skin, kissing her forehead and mumbling a ‘sorry’
His question made many different things come to mind. Was he asking how she’d been for two years? How she was today, how she was after just running into him again? “I um…good” Maxxie stumbled over the words , her cheeks burned and they turned scarlet. Self consciously she brushed her hair behind her ears. Oh yes she was starting to fidget, never a good sign. “How’ve… you been?” she figured it was the polite thing to do, ask him how he was but this was all becoming much too awkward for her liking. Jayden was not a patient child and was squirming again. Maxxie glanced at her then glanced back to Caleb, wondering if she should introduce them or not. He’d been so sure it wasn’t his but with one look at Jayden, it was hard to object that she was in fact his child. “This is Kit- Jayden” it felt odd to be saying her, sorry their daughters real name, it just wasn’t something she was referred to as very often. Brushing the little girls hair from her face, Maxxie placed a finger under Jayden’s chin, turning it, though the child was reluctant. “Say hello Kitty this is….”. Maxine let the sentence trail off, not sure if he was going to yell at her again like last time. With a sad sigh, she opened her mouth again “Caleb”
The little girl waved shyly. At two, Jayden should have been able to talk, but she didn’t get enough interaction with people to know how yet. Of course Maxxie took her daughter everywhere with her, but simply hearing words from one person was not enough. Occasionally Jayden heard the sound of Alyssa’s voice but it was still not enough. Unsure of what to do, Maxine nibbled on the end of her cookie. “I thought you said you weren’t going to come back…” the words slipped out of her mouth faster then she had time to filter them. Her understanding had been that he hadn’t ever wanted to see her again and so he was leaving, of course she’d always wanted him to come back , but it hadn’t ever seemed plausible. Really, Maxxie was just fishing to see if it had anything to do with her. “I mean…you said I wasn’t ever going to see you again” she spoke quietly, in hushed tones, standing only a foot away from him. Close enough to touch, close enough to smell….god she was such a creeper.

Caleb was more shocked than anything else. He hadn’t ever planned on seeing her again. Especially after she tried to pin a kid on him, why on earth would he want to see her? He couldn’t even think about it. She talked to it, Kitty, what a fucked up name. He wondered where she’d gotten that name. Whatever, it wasn’t any of his business, it wasn’t like that kid was his. He watched her, she looked nervous, this was interesting. He couldn’t get his mind on track, he was thinking of how to get out of this situation. He really wished he had just stayed home today. It would’ve been better. “Who the fuck else would it be?” he asked. His voice was probably a little harsher than he would normally have let it become but he didn’t care. To him, this was normal. To him he wasn’t acting strange or anything. “You’re going to cut her in half if you keep holding her like that,” he said watching the girl squirm. It wasn’t really that he cared or anything it was more that he really didn’t want to experience her screaming or something, he had enough of a headache trying to figure shit out. “It’s been an interesting few years,” he said. Did he go into detail? Was he supposed to make conversation? He hadn’t seen this girl in years, he hadn’t spoken to her or anything. Did they make small talk? They’d had sex once. Did that mean they had to have small talk? The less he said would probably be the better for him. “So what is she like a fucking mute?” he asked looking at Maxxie. When the kid, who looked old enough to at least say something, didn’t say anything that was about all Caleb could think. Caleb realized he was being pretty cruel and crude. Then again, to Caleb this was normal so why bother trying to change himself to act nice for anyone especially a kid that wasn’t his. Part of him wanted to ask if her real father ever stepped forward. He would’ve too, except he didn’t want her to tell him it was his. He didn’t want her to say again. He didn’t believe it but he still didn’t want to hear it. Caleb thought of his life before the band. It was a good life, it was a fun life. He thought of their night together. It was fun. Maxxie! That was her name. He mentally congratulated himself for not having to ask and look like a douche. Instead he just waited for her to keep the conversation going. Caleb was not a conversation starter. He was more of a conversation keeper. When someone gave him something to talk about he could talk for hours, but he wasn’t fond of being the one to make the conversation in fact he hated it. A laugh escaped his lips when she spoke again. It was pretty funny for her to bring htat up. If it was Caleb asking someone, even though he wouldn’t be asking someone, he wouldn’t give a shit what they said he’d focus on the future and the fact that, for some reason, they were here. Trust me, I didn’t come back to see you he thought. “Maxxie, you of all people should know things change,” he said shrugging. He really didn’t want to go into much detail. He was happy just kind of hanging out being. He watched her, looked around, there were plenty of places to sit, why was she standing, besides having a conversation with him. “What’s changed? Anything new around here?” he asked. He was bored, he might as well just have a conversation. There wasn’t anything wrong with a conversation now was there? He didn’t think so. And besides he wanted to know what had been going on in this town since he ditched it. He knew what was going on in the world but not this town, it was awkward. He couldn’t help but look at the little girl though. She just looked so familiar. Apparently Maxxie liked sleeping with guys that looked like Caleb. No wonder she thought she could pin this kid on him. But, like he’d blogged before he left for tour, without a paternity test he wasn’t ever going to say that kid was his. He was certain on that part. “Well, are you gonna stand there like an idiot or are you going to actually sit down?” he asked her. He wouldn’t have actually asked her to sit down but he felt awkward having her stand there and talk with him holding a kid in one arm. That just made him feel strange, very very strange. eight two six words for pey as maxxie. It’s at the local coffee shop just so everyone knows. By the way, I’m kinda blah today sorry it sucks.
